Young Puppies are like sponges and are learning all the time. It’s such an exciting and crucial time for them and they are very keen to learn and work for rewards (whether that’s our attention/praise or treats!).
- For Puppy Training, I feel 1-2-1 sessions work so well, because they are tailored to your specific needs – all Pups are individuals (just like we are), so it seems only right that their initial training is specifically tailored to their needs.
There’s a lot to cover for puppies, so we need a minimum of 2 sessions booked together (2 x 1hr sessions = £90).
Booking 3 sessions gives us the opportunity to cover all the important basic essentials, plus to tie it all together, we spend the 3rd sessions walking through the park together, clarifying how valuable all the key cues are and highlight how to use the lead well and be able to draw and keep your pups focus on you, even when faced with all the distractions and temptations of the park environment.
- 1st Session – It’s always useful to do the 1st session at your home, so we look at things like toilet training, sleep/rest areas and times, establishing initial boundaries, look at basic obedience, focus and communicating well whilst always setting them up for success. Additionally, we look at preventing separation anxiety and promoting calm.
- 2nd Session – The second session is useful to be in the fully enclosed training area at Preston Park (so this will be after their 2nd vaccinations) – where we look at the key exercises and points when teaching recall, loose-lead walking and continuing with the impulse control, looking at other key/useful cues such ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it’.
- 3rd Session – The 3rd session we’ll walk through the park together, highlighting focus on you amid a busy park environment, using the basics that we’ve covered and working with them in situ, when faced with further distractions etc; highlighting how to use the long lead well and the best ways to manage situations as they happen, whilst you continue to build a great connection and be a great leader for them.
We’ll cover the following:
- Essential Communication – building a great connection with your pup and the importance of Clarity, Timing and Consistency.
- Essential Basic Obedience.
- Essential Focus (great focus is the core of many essential behaviours) – to be able to draw (and keep) their attention when you need to.
- Essentials for achieving a reliable Recall.
- Essentials for achieving consistent Loose-lead Walking.
- Impulse Control/self control
- Ongoing Socialisation – essential familiarisation of our human society (helps prevent potential anxieties).
- Establishing Rules, Routines & Structure – day to day.
- How to be a Brilliant Leader – things to do every day to support your pup as they grow to be a confident, happy and healthy dog.
Level 4/5 Advanced Dog Behaviour (BCCSDip.AdvCanBhv); Fun Dog Agility Coach (BCCSDip.FDAg)

‘On-Track’ Training Classes – the 2nd Friday of every month – All ages welcome – Regular classes to keep on track with your dogs training!
£15 per class – just book on when the date works for you.
- Invaluable exercises, providing mental stimulation and every day skills.
- Class Location: Preston Park Training Area (fully enclosed area just between the Tennis Courts and the Rotunda Cafe)
Mental exercise decreases hyperactivity, boredom and destructive behaviours – If dogs don’t get enough mental exercise, they’re not using their brains to process enough information, therefore they have pent up mental energy (which has to come out somewhere)!
If they’re bored, they are more likely to use that pent up energy for unwanted behaviours such as excessive barking, unwanted chewing, excessive attention seeking, inappropriate digging and over-reactions. This type of training can also help improve a dogs’ self-esteem and it hugely improves the connection and communication between you and your dog.
All classes include a whole range of exercises around the following subjects, plus more:
- Elements of Gundog Training
- Exercises to support Loose-lead walking and Recall.
- Self-Control and Calm around distractions.
- Hold it/Drop it
- Leave it and Impulse control
- Sit/Stay
- Focus
